Learn about the birth and beauty of a supernova, the incredibly bright and shiny explosion that marks the death of a star. Inspired by this brief exploration of space, dive into the bright and glittery world of art through the creation of a folded art book. We will experiment with watercolour pencils, metallic colouring pencils, and yes, glitter to mimic a supernova as you embellish your art book.
All art supplies provided. Suitable for all levels of experience from beginners to seasoned painters. At the end of the evening you will have both new knowledge about the science of our universe and an artwork of your very own to take home.
Both prosecco and non-alcoholic options will be available.

THEA MERCER is an interdisciplinary botanical illustrator, researcher, and educator based in West Cork, Ireland. She earned a MA in Anthropology at UCC and a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Seattle University. Using arts-based methods, she investigates and illustrates the impact between individuals and the natural world in a contemporary context.
LAURA COTTER is originally from Minane Bridge Co.Cork. She is a current PhD student in the University College Dublin Space Science group, focusing on Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) and Supernovae. As well as her own research Laura is currently a member of the operations for EIRSAT-1, Ireland’s first satellite. EIRSAT-1 launched on the 1st of December 2023 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
