Taking Up Space: A Queer STEAM Evening

Join a fantastically fun evening on gender, identity, and creativity in STEM / STEAM, featuring people who change how we see the world, from computers to comets to canvases. Come for the conversation, stay for the drag queen performance; a round of Equality BINGO; and an experiential table quiz called Sample Size: This Room using data gathered from you, the audience!

Our featured contributors will talk about the experiences, barriers and communities that have shaped their personal and professional development, inviting the audience into an open conversation about visibility, creativity, and belonging in science, technology, engineering, arts and maths.

This free event will be held in the relaxed and comfortable club bar at the Cork Cricket Club on Mardyke Walk in the city, serving a wide selection of beer and wine.

Featured contributors for the evening include Dr Alfredo Carpineti, queer astrophysicist and founder of Pride in STEM; Jeanie Mac, drag queen by night and scientist with an MSc in Synthetic Chemistry by day; and Maitiú Mac Cárthaigh, MA, a visual artist and researcher based up in the back ass of nowhere who’s practice focuses on rural queer existence in Ireland, performative identity, and decolonising queer history.
